How to come up with content ideas for your brand?

As a creator it's pretty common to get stuck when coming up with content ideas.

Specially if you're a new creator.

Some times, it can even push you away from writing your first blog or making your first video.

Now why am I writing this post?

As a creator, like you I was stuck and couldn't come up with an idea that I could write about.

I did have ideas, but they were too deep and required a lot of work.

I wanted an idea that I could spend a few hours and get it published.

Which is when it hit me...

I should write about how to come up with content ideas and since this is my first article on this blog, I think it's a good place to start.

Before I continue, I came up with the idea of starting Creator Forensics ~2 weeks ago while I was watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith.

The minute I finished the movie I bought the domain and set up my blog on Beehiiv and since then...

**🦗 crickets 🦗**

I didn't do anything that moved the blog forward.

Why?

I was stuck.

I didn't know what I wanted to write.

I was stuck with no ideas to having so many ideas.

If you're a new content creator or have created in the past you can be in this situation.

Let's talk about how you can overcome that.

So there are a few ways you could go about it…

1) If you're stuck with no ideas

If you're stuck with no ideas here a few solutions that have worked well for me in the past.

Consume content - Movies, music, podcasts, books, etc.

As creatives we constantly need to be feeding our brains with new ideas, philosophies and knowledge, it helps us think, it helps us be creative.

Think about this way...

If I hadn't been watching Mr. & Mrs. Smith 2 weeks ago, I might not have come up with the name "Creator Forensics" and you might not be reading this article right now.

If I hadn't consumed content I might've not written some of these twitter threads I'm proud of ❤️

These are just a few of many times consuming content helped me come up with new ideas…

Brainstorm with friends

I'm lucky to have amazing friends in my life who inspire me every day.

Brainstorming with friends is a great place to generate ideas.

They most definitely have knowledge and experience on things you might not have already and it can lead to generating new ideas.

Every couple of weeks I get on what I call "brainstorming calls" with my friends.

These are usually 45-60 minute calls where we set the tone to generate ideas, it can be from content they've consumed or have gained inspiration from to completely new ideas.

Then I jot them all down in a mind map on Whimsical and by the end of the session I'm filled with new ideas that I can use to write or make videos on.

A mind map of my learnings about Upwork

Make AI your best friend

Now, I know most creatives aren't a huge fan of artificial intelligence, but it can become your best friend.

I don't remember the day I haven't used ChatGPT in the last 6 months.

You can use ChatGPT to help you brainstorm, here's a prompt I used recently that helped me get to writing this article you're reading:

Let's do some brainstorming....

I need your help coming up with a blog post I can write this week for my business "Creator Forensics"

The vision of this blog is to become the go to place & community for any creator advice / support from beginner to advanced and help them understand how content works.

Basically things like why certain videos work and why some don't, how to come up with better ideas, how to monetise their audience, case studies of bigger creator, etc.

Now here are a few ideas I've come up with so far,

👉 Why are businesses switching to founder-led marketing?

👉 How to come up with good content ideas?

👉 Why creator led businesses blow up? Ex: Prime [Case study]

👉 Why professionals quit their jobs to become full-time content creators? (Ali Abdaal, Graham Stephan, Mark Rober, Nischa, etc.)

👉 Why creating content is more important now than ever? (It acts as a work portfolio, it can attract business opportunities, new revenue streams like adsense, course sales, etc.)

I need your help coming up with 10 completely different and new ideas by using mine as inspiration.

When you use a detailed prompt like this, ChatGPT will throw you a bunch of ideas and then you can continue to fine-tune it's results, ask it to generate a certain style of ideas, and so on.

Steal ideas - Copy from top creators

Now this is sure way to come up with ideas.

What you have to do is,

1. Come up with a list of top creators in your niche that you admire.

2. Identifying they best performing piece of content.

3. Recreate it with your knowledge, experience & style.

Take a look at this for example...

Creators producing videos with similar thumbnails & titles.

Now is this plagiarising or is it inspiration?

I consider this inspiration.

Somebody came up with the idea first and made the video.

It performed well, so every other creator started following the idea.

But every video is unique.

Sharing their own experiences and knowledge in their own style.

I personally love watching Nischa's & Anthony's video more than Codie or Mark's.

I hope you found value in this article, if you did share with your creator friends ❤️

Until next week ✌️
